Yesterday, Ms. Graebel's class took a hands-on approach to learning by heading to the store to shop for the upcoming School Forest Trip! 🏕️🔥 Students were tasked with budgeting and planning meals to feed around 50 people on Friday. 💰📋 They worked together to make smart choices, compare prices, and ensure everyone will have delicious, campfire-ready meals!
This real-world experience gave students a chance to apply math, teamwork, and problem-solving skills—all while preparing for an exciting outdoor adventure! 🌲🥾 We can’t wait to see all their hard work pay off at the School Forest!

Mrs. Detlor’s 2nd Graders ROCKED the vote! At the end of their social studies unit on democracy and government, these 2nd Graders got to experience the excitement of voting. They read the book Grace for President. After learning more about the two candidates, Grace and Thomas, in the book, students voted. Students brought their voter registration cards to their polling place, checked in, and cast their votes. In the book, Grace won through the electoral college process with 270 electoral votes. These 2nd Graders excitedly and anxiously counted their votes...Grace won! They had a blast and are looking forward to voting in their first election in the not-so-distant future.

Mrs. Detlor’s 2nd Graders completed a personal narrative writing unit. The class worked hard throughout the unit, learning how to make the characters in their narratives talk, move, think, and feel. They used new techniques like ellipses and quotation marks. In their final copy, students included an All About the Author page, cover, and colored illustrations. They had a writing celebration where students read their personal narratives to one another. These personal narratives are a must-see! #2ndgradewriters #personalnarratives #2ndgradeROCKS

Snowflakes, snowflakes, snowflakes! This was the theme for today's ExCEL Play Group. After playing, the children listened to "Ten Sparkly Snowflakes" and received their own book and pictures to retell the story. We counted snowflakes to 20, danced to the Winter Hokey Pokey, and had fun with the Snow Action Song! After that, the kids had the chance to make paper snowflakes and create a snowy winter scene. As if that wasn't enough, we made snowflakes out of pretzels and marshmallows for snack! They were delicious! If you haven't joined us yet, our next play group is February 28th at 9 am. Hope to see you there!
